Readers will have the chance to meet journalist and author Asher Emanuel when he visits Marsden Books in Karori later this month to sign copies of his new book, The Valley.
The public event will take place at 12.30pm on Thursday 25 June at the Karori bookstore.
Published by Bridget Williams Books, The Valley: Crime and Punishment in a New Zealand City explores crime, poverty and the criminal justice system through the lives of three men connected to the Hutt Valley.
Drawing on more than two years of field research and hundreds of hours of interviews, Emanuel follows the experiences of a repeat offender, an accused burglar and a legal aid lawyer as they move through courts, prisons, hospitals, rehabilitation services and welfare agencies.
The book is told largely through verbatim dialogue, giving readers a close look at the realities faced by people navigating New Zealand’s justice system.
Released in May, The Valley has attracted attention for its in-depth reporting and human-centred approach to complex social issues.
The signing event is free and open to the public, with copies of the book available at Marsden Books.
