A special Matariki exhibition honouring five decades of te reo Māori revitalisation has opened at Thistle Hall.
Weavers of Te Ataarangi features work by current students of Te Ataarangi and celebrates the movement’s role in nurturing and sharing te reo Māori across generations.
The exhibition acknowledges a whakapapa of language revitalisation, while also highlighting the deep artistry embedded in teaching, weaving, mātauranga, visual storytelling and te reo Māori.
Visitors are invited to take part in bilingual beginner weaving sessions and contribute to the co-creation of an art installation using harakeke on 4 and 5 July.
The exhibition runs from Tuesday 30 June to Friday 10 July at Thistle Hall, 293 Cuba Street, Wellington.
It is open daily from 11am to 6pm.
