Three Wellington restaurants have received one Michelin Star each in the first Michelin Guide for New Zealand.
Ortega Fish Shack, Logan Brown and Jano Bistro were named among 14 one-star restaurants across the country in the Michelin Guide New Zealand 2026 selection.
The guide also awarded two Michelin Stars to Essence in Queenstown, meaning New Zealand received 16 stars across 15 restaurants.
Wellington’s result is a major recognition for the city’s hospitality sector and its long-standing reputation as one of New Zealand’s strongest dining destinations.
Ortega Fish Shack, on Majoribanks Street, was recognised for its seafood-focused menu and relaxed hospitality.
Logan Brown, based in the former banking chamber on the corner of Cuba and Vivian streets, received the honour in its 30th year.
Jano Bistro, on Willis Street, is led by French-born chef Pierre-Alain Fenoux and is known for seasonal fine dining.
Wellington also received four Bib Gourmand awards, which recognise good food at good value. The Wellington recipients were 1154 Pastaria, Cicio Cacio, Hummingbird and Indian Alley.
Another 15 Wellington restaurants were included as Michelin Selected: 50-50, Boulcott Street Bistro, Charley Noble, Damascus, Floriditas, Graze, Highwater, Kisa, Koji, Margot, Napoli, Ombra, Rita, Rosella and Shed 5.
The inaugural New Zealand guide recognised 110 restaurants across Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown.
The recognition places Wellington restaurants on a new international stage and gives diners more reason to celebrate the capital’s food scene.
