Creative Capital Arts Trust has appointed Luke Eisemann as the new director of the New Zealand Fringe Festival.
Eisemann has worked with the festival since 2022 in several roles, including operations manager. During that time, he helped develop its systems, industry relationships and artist-focused approach.
The trust said his appointment reflected its commitment to developing emerging arts leaders within the organisation.
Eisemann is also a theatre maker with experience as a writer, director, producer, venue manager and performer.
He trained in theatre at New York University and worked internationally before settling in Wellington. His recent experience includes work with the New Zealand International Film Festival, WellingtonNZ and CubaDupa.
“NZ Fringe has no doubt been a formative part of my life in Wellington,” Eisemann said.
“As an artist, a producer, and as part of the team behind the scenes, I care deeply about this festival and the artists who make it what it is.
“I’m excited to step into this role and work alongside the community to support bold, independent work and continue growing the festival’s impact in Pōneke and beyond.”
Creative Capital Arts Trust said Eisemann’s knowledge of the festival, international theatre background and collaborative leadership style would provide continuity while helping guide NZ Fringe into its next chapter.
The trust also thanked outgoing festival director Vanessa Stacey, who had led the festival since 2021. Stacey stepped down in January for health reasons.
