NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi advises Wellington drivers of widespread overnight roadworks and closures this week.

Drivers across Wellington can expect widespread overnight disruptions this week, with multiple motorway closures, ramp shutdowns and tunnel maintenance works planned from Tawa to Kilbirnie.

At the northern end of the network, the southbound off-ramp at Tawa to Westchester Drive and Grenada Drive will be closed early in the week. Resurfacing works will also see the southbound mainline closed south of the Tawa off-ramp on Wednesday and Thursday nights between 9pm and 4.30am.

Further south, Johnsonville and Newlands will face several overnight ramp closures. The Johnsonville southbound on-ramp will be closed Tuesday night, while both on- and off-ramps in Newlands and Johnsonville will be affected Thursday night for resurfacing. Lane closures for drainage maintenance are also planned Sunday and Thursday nights near Johnsonville.

In Thorndon and along the urban motorway, resurfacing works will close the Murphy Street southbound off-ramp Thursday night, while Kaiwharawhara southbound off-ramps will be closed Wednesday and Thursday nights.

Barrier renewals will see southbound lane closures in place near the Tinakori Road northbound on-ramp from Sunday to Thursday nights.

Several major tunnel closures are scheduled across the city. The Terrace Tunnel will close Tuesday night for streetlight pole replacement, while the Arras Tunnel will close Monday night for resurfacing. The Mt Victoria Tunnel will be closed Wednesday night for maintenance.

Vivian Street in Te Aro will also be closed southbound Monday night between Victoria Street and Cuba Street as part of wider tunnel and resurfacing works, with detours in place via Aotea Quay.

In the eastern suburbs, Cobham Drive in Kilbirnie will be closed northbound Tuesday night between Troy Road and Evans Bay Parade. Wellington Road will also close northbound Sunday night for paving, with further paving works continuing Wednesday night.

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi is advising motorists to plan ahead, expect delays and follow all detours and traffic management in place throughout the week.
