A landmark moment in Wellington’s cultural story is set to take centre stage when Drax Project & Friends headline the Grand Opening of Te Whare Whakarauika Wellington Town Hall on 20 February 2027.

The Wellington-founded band will lead the celebrations at the restored venue, bringing together local talent for a concert marking the reopening of one of the city’s most significant cultural spaces.

Joining the line-up is special guest Bret McKenzie, one of Wellington’s most recognised creative figures. McKenzie and his Wellington-based band will open the show before Drax Project & Friends take to the stage.

The event will be one of the first major public celebrations held in the reopened Town Hall, which has long been regarded as one of New Zealand’s premier performance venues.

The concert promises to showcase Wellington’s musical heritage while celebrating the return of the iconic building to the city’s cultural landscape.

Drax Project has built an international following while maintaining strong ties to Wellington, making the group a fitting choice to headline the opening event.

The Grand Opening concert will be held at Te Whare Whakarauika Wellington Town Hall on 20 February 2027. Tickets are available now.
