Traffic backed up in central Wellington after a crash between a bus and a car closed the State Highway 1/Vivian Street and Taranaki Street intersection on Monday morning.

A crash between a bus carrying high school students and a car closed a major central Wellington intersection on Monday morning.

Police said State Highway 1 at Vivian Street, near Taranaki Street, was blocked after the crash, which was reported about 8.25am.

No injuries were reported.

The bus, numbered 737, was travelling to Wellington College and Wellington High School.

Wellington College associate headmaster Darrell Harvey told RNZ staff at the school gate reported students from the bus arrived on time after the crash.

“Our students from that bus were on site before the day started,” he said.

As far as he was aware, no Wellington College students had been injured.

The crash site has since been cleared and the road has reopened.
