A wastewater overflow on State Highway 2 near Ngauranga is continuing to affect traffic and discharge into Wellington Harbour through stormwater drains.
Wellington Water said the overflow was coming from a manhole on the southbound lanes close to the Ngauranga exit.
As of 2.30pm on Saturday, crews had reduced the flow going into the wastewater pipe and flushed the line downstream of Ngauranga, where a blockage is suspected.
Wellington Water said crews would repair a damaged part of the wastewater pipe inside the manhole chamber. Once that work is complete, flow will be returned to the pipe to check whether the blockage has cleared.
One southbound lane approaching Ngauranga remains closed. Drivers are being asked to expect delays and take extra care.
Earlier, Wellington Water said the overflow was still discharging into the harbour through stormwater drains and signage would be placed in affected discharge areas.
