More than 5,300 high school students and caregivers have registered for Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington’s Open Day this Friday, 21 August.
Prospective students will be able to explore the university’s Kelburn, Pipitea and Te Aro campuses, attend sample lectures and get a taste of student life in Wellington.
Activities will include conversations with university philosophers, printmaking using giant rollers, student-created video games and ice cream made using liquid nitrogen.
Wellington landmarks will also be lit green to mark the occasion, while participating retail, hospitality and tourism businesses will offer discounts and giveaways to visitors wearing Open Day festival wristbands.
Vice-Chancellor Bryony James said the event was an opportunity to showcase both the university and Wellington.
“What an incredible city to be a student in. You’re right in the beating heart of the creative, political, legal, corporate and scientific ecosystem of the country.
“The best thing about Open Day is watching the spark ignite someone’s sense that they might just have found their place in the world.”
Free buses will run throughout the day between the university’s three campuses at Kelburn Parade, Bunny Street in Pipitea and Vivian Street in Te Aro.
