Onslow College has finished its Senior Boys basketball season on top after beating North Wellington rivals Newlands College 101-98 in a high-scoring Division 2 final.
The three-point victory gave Onslow the Basketball Wellington Senior Boys Division 2 title and provided a dramatic finish to the winter sports season for both schools.
College Sport Wellington described the game as a high-scoring contest as part of its finals-night wrap-up, while Onslow College celebrated the result as a showdown against its local rivals.
The match was one of several finals marking the end of the secondary school basketball season across the region.
For North Wellington, the result also brought together two neighbouring colleges with strong sporting communities, with students from Johnsonville, Newlands and surrounding suburbs represented on court.
Onslow College confirmed the final score in its end-of-season sports wrap, saying its Senior A Boys had secured the top spot.
The title adds to a busy winter sports programme at the college as teams across basketball, netball and other codes wrap up their 2026 seasons.
