Man charged after Courtenay Place arcade incident

Traffic backs up on State Highway 2 near the Ngauranga exit after a crash blocks a southbound lane.

A 32-year-old man has been charged after a member of the public reported an incident at a Courtenay Place arcade in central Wellington.

Police said the man was arrested after staff at the arcade contacted officers around 6pm on Monday, 28 September.

A man at the arcade had alerted staff after witnessing an incident involving a male and a female.

The 32-year-old was charged with making an intimate visual recording and failing to carry out obligations in relation to a computer search.

Police are now trying to identify the man who initially reported the incident.

He was believed to have been at the arcade with his daughter, but left before officers arrived.

Constable James Hopgood said his statement remained important to the investigation.

“While charges have been filed, a statement to Police from the man who reported this matter remains absolutely crucial to our investigation,” Hopgood said.

“We thank him for reporting what he did so quickly, which has helped lead to a quick arrest – however, we are appealing to him to come forward to help us further.”

Anyone who made the report, or knows who the man may be, can contact Police through 105 and reference file number 260929/8415.
