People walking, cycling and catching buses through the Jarden Mile intersection now have improved crossings and connections following upgrades to Hutt Road.

The work includes changes to the shared walking and cycling path, improved pedestrian crossings and connections between bus stops and the wider transport network.

Delivered jointly by NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi and Wellington City Council, the upgrades link with Te Ara Tupua, the shared path between Ngauranga and Petone, and the bike and bus lanes along Thorndon Quay and Hutt Road.

Hutt Road connects Wellington with its northern suburbs and the Hutt Valley. At Jarden Mile, the improvements help people move between walking and cycling routes, bus services and the state highway network.

NZTA project manager Dominic Carson said the work strengthens connections between the region’s walking and cycling projects.

Wellington City Council’s transport infrastructure and operations manager Ross Balfour said the changes would make the network safer and more accessible for people travelling through the area.
