Some Jetstar passengers will depart from the southern end of Wellington Airport during a 14-month upgrade of the northern domestic lounge, with travellers urged to check their gate before heading through the terminal.

The project was due to begin on Tuesday 3 November. It will create a larger, more flexible lounge, with areas that can switch between domestic and international use when extra capacity is needed.

Airport chief executive Matt Clarke said the refurbishment would bring more natural light, new bathrooms, seating and décor, along with a new convenience offering.

For passengers, the main change during the work will be the location of some Jetstar departures. Flights using the southern terminal will leave from a different part of the airport than the northern gates many regular travellers are used to.

Clarke urged passengers to check the gate shown on their ticket, airline app or the airport departure boards.

The changes do not mean international departures are moving south. The international lounge remains fully open, and international flights will continue using the northern end of the terminal.
