Greater Wellington Regional Council has reappointed chief executive Nigel Corry for a further two-year term following a formal performance review.

The decision, confirmed on 14 April, follows a comprehensive assessment led by the council’s Chief Executive Employment Committee. Chair Daran Ponter said the outcome reflects strong confidence in Corry’s leadership.

“The committee has completed a comprehensive review of Nigel Corry’s performance and council has agreed to reappoint him,” Ponter said.

He said Corry had provided steady leadership while delivering on council priorities in what he described as a complex and evolving local government environment. The council found his performance met and, in many areas, exceeded expectations.

Under the Local Government Act 2002, councils appoint chief executives for up to five years. In the final year of that term, they must either begin a new recruitment process or extend the appointment for up to two additional years following a performance review.

Ponter said the council followed that process and determined reappointment was in the best interests of the region.

Chief Executive Employment Committee chair Simon Woolf said the decision would provide organisational stability.

“The council’s decision provides stability and certainty at an important time, and we look forward to continuing to work with Nigel in his role,” Woolf said.

Corry will continue to lead the regional council as it delivers transport, environmental, and infrastructure priorities across the Wellington region.
