The Hurricanes have booked their place in the Super Rugby Pacific semi-finals after crushing the ACT Brumbies 66-12 in a record-breaking performance in Wellington.

Playing in wet and windy conditions, the Hurricanes produced one of the most dominant finals displays in Super Rugby history, scoring 10 tries and overwhelming the Australian side from the opening stages.

The home side raced to a 38-7 halftime lead after first-half tries from Caleb Delany, Cam Roigard, Billy Proctor and Warner Dearns. Roigard crossed twice before the break as the Hurricanes turned territorial dominance into points.

The Brumbies briefly responded through Corey Toole and later added a second try to Tane Edmed, but the Hurricanes never looked threatened.

Dearns grabbed his second try of the night in the second half before Ngatungane Punivai produced a stunning hat-trick to complete the rout.

Ruben Love was flawless with the boot, converting all nine conversion attempts and adding a penalty goal.

The result marked the heaviest finals defeat ever suffered by an Australian team in Super Rugby and the biggest loss in Brumbies history.

For Wellington rugby fans, it was a memorable night as the Hurricanes delivered a powerful statement ahead of the semi-finals, combining attacking flair, clinical finishing and relentless pressure to overwhelm one of Australia’s strongest sides.

The Hurricanes will now host the Blues in a Super Rugby Pacific semi-final at Hnry Stadium in Wellington on Saturday, June 13.

Kick-off is scheduled for 7.05pm, with gates opening at 5.30pm and the box office opening at 4.30pm.

Following the Hurricanes’ dominant quarter-final performance and the high stakes of a place in the final, a sell-out crowd is expected as Wellington rugby fans turn out in force to support the home side.
