Actor and comedian Cohen Holloway is among the Wellington performers taking the stage in Public Service Announcements, now running at Circa Theatre.
The long-running political satire series returns as another election approaches, taking aim at politicians, coalitions, protests, strikes and the workings of the Beehive.
Created by James Nokise and Anya Tate-Manning, Public Service Announcements began as a late-night comedy experiment in 2011.
Circa Theatre said the series has produced 19 original shows across five election cycles, with more than 100 artists working on productions at BATS Theatre and Circa during the past 15 years.
“PSA balances smart and stupid; inside political gags and fart jokes, a ruthless investigation of leaders and election promises, but most importantly side-splitting, pants-wetting comedy,” Circa said.
This year’s production is directed by Carrie Green and written by Thom Adams, Jamie McCaskill and Ruby Vidgen.
Holloway is joined in the cast by Kali Kopae, Andrew Paterson, Jamie McCaskill, Brayden Cresswell and Anya Tate-Manning.
The production runs in Circa One until Saturday, August 29, with performances from Tuesday to Saturday at 7pm and Sunday at 4pm.
Tickets range from $25 to $60. The show is recommended for audiences aged 13 and over due to strong language, and runs for 120 minutes including a 15-minute interval.
