A 40-year-old man has been charged after an inner-city Wellington eatery was robbed on Manners Street on Thursday night.
Police received multiple reports shortly after 9pm of a man allegedly demanding money from staff and passing them a threatening note.
More than $400 was taken before the man left the eatery. No staff or members of the public were injured.
Wellington City Beat officers responded and began making enquiries in the central city. Police said they located and arrested a man on Manners Street a short time later and recovered the stolen cash.
Inspector Jason McCarthy, Wellington Area Prevention Manager, said staff at the eatery and members of the public assisted officers in locating the alleged offender.
The 40-year-old has been charged with robbery and is due to appear in the Wellington District Court on Friday.
Police have not identified the eatery involved.
