Wellington residents interested in tracing their family history can explore their roots at a free Family History Day in Tawa on Saturday, 29 August.
The event, organised by the Greater Wellington branches of the New Zealand Society of Genealogists, will be held at Tawa Union Church, 6 Elena Place, from 9.30am to 4pm.
This year’s theme is Round the Isles, with topics covering family history research in England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales, as well as probate records.
The day will feature speakers, exhibitors and a raffle, with visitors able to meet people involved in a range of genealogy and historical research groups.
Exhibitors include Scottish, Irish, English and Shetland interest groups, the National Library, NZ Micrographics, Military Medals, Wellington City Archives and Wellington region branches of the New Zealand Society of Genealogists.
The event is part of Family History Month, which runs throughout August and encourages people to learn more about their ancestry, family connections and cultural heritage.
Wellington libraries are also hosting Family History Month activities during August.
Entry to the Tawa Family History Day is free.
